My Active Interests

Family history research is one of my ongoing interests.  I've currently researched back 12 generations to the early 1600's.  I've got a hard copy of all my research in seven volumes which includes photographs, civil and parish records, wills, birth announcement cards, wedding invites and a whole plethora of interesting bits and pieces.  Also, as I'm also researching all the female lines, I've built up an extensive amount of documentation on both maternal and paternal sides of the family.  Everything is also stored on my PC and I use MicroSoft PowerPoint to draw the family trees.  The volumes are indexed and each person has an individual code which makes cross-referencing relatively simple.  I use the Mormon's Personal Ancestral File (PAF) software as the main database and to ensure against losing all my work I've made a complete second copy of everything which is held at a different location.  Having the second copy held at another location introduces difficulties with maintaining the integrity of the 2 copies but at least I have a spare copy to pass around the family.

Golly brooches have been an on-going interest since I was knee high to the proverbial... but a chance find in a Farnham junk shop in Jul 98 re-kindled that interest.  From a simple collection of 28 brooches I've now got over 1000 and also have quite a few other bits and pieces produced by Robertson's.  At the moment my brooches are displayed on 12 Robertson's Golly Scrolls, in 3 Robertson's Golly Brooch Boxes and in 3 shoe boxes!  The intention is to build a purpose built wooden display cabinet for them sometime in the future.  To see some of my Golly brooch collection click here.  As well as Golly badges I collect other metal enamel badges, mainly Pontins, Corgi Model Club, Rupert & Golly & Thunderbirds; there are links to some of these above.

Another of my interests is JRR Tolkien, hence the link above to my Tolkien webpage from which there's a link to the official Tolkien website - definitely worth a visit and you'll also find details there for joining the Society.  I recently managed to pick up a copy of the new de-luxe edition of 'The Lord of The Rings' (limited to only 1000 copies) printed on india paper - it's only my 6th copy of the LotR but then my Tolkien library contains over like 400 items and is always growing.
